![]() Winter Springs originated from Spanish land grants given to a successful New York merchant who traded lumber and other goods with Spain. Lake wharves used to be home to steamboats delivering freight for wagon delivery inland to Maitland and Orlando. Farmers, lumbering crews, sawmill workers and more migrated into the area, constructing all manner of businesses. Cattle business began to boom along the spring-fed lakes. Incorporated as North Orlando in 1959, there were fewer than 600 residents in the area. That’s all changed, with Winter Springs providing home to over 33,000 people. Winter Springs also boasts having the largest area out of the county’s seven cities. A new town center is in development to revitalize Winter Springs and bring with it more growth. What is life like in Winter Springs? With crime rates over 50% below the national average, one could certainly use the word peaceful. With plenty of historic buildings and landmarks derived from its early culture, the landscape is inviting. Average household incomes are above the national average, with unemployment almost half of U.S. levels. Winter Springs provides a great place for families. |
